5 Essential Tips To Optimize Your Health During The COVID-19 Pandemic in Plymouth Meeting

Hey guys, Dr. Anthony Memmo here with Restoration Spine and Wellness, here are some of my personal tips to help optimize your health and immune system as we face a global health crisis. Enjoy and be safe out there!

Tips and transcript is as follows in Plymouth Meeting:

1. Wash your hands
Use soap and hot water and wash for at least 20 seconds. They say about the time it takes to sing happy birthday twice.

2. Change your clothes when returning to your house.

If you leave your house, to go to the store, to go to work, any place where you are around otherpeople, change your clothes when you get back to you house.
a. A virus can live up to 6 hours on clothing. So take you clothes off, put them in your hamper or somewhere away from you and put of a new clean outfit. That is going to keep, not only you, but the people around you in your home safe.

3. Rinse your mouth out every 15 – 20 minutes.
This is one that I had not heard before, but it makes total sense. Since it is believed that this virus, as well as most viruses, are spread through the air we are likely to be exposed as we breath in the air around us. However, if we inhale the virus in, there is a chance that it will first get stuck on our tongue, our tonsil or even the back of our mouth initially. Since the virus is most concerning if it enters our lungs, if we rinse our mouth out every 15 minutes then we can give ourselves a chance to get rid of any potential virus exposure that is lurking in our mouths and keep the potential infection from entering the lungs.

4. Focus on boosting your immune system.
a. So I will talk about this one in more depth in a later video so be sure to check that out but this is a really important one! So since the world is looking frantically for a cure, what that tells you is that there is NO CURE. So in reality what that means is that we ALL have to take the steps to keep ourselves healthy and keep our immune systems strong.

As I said I will go into exactly what I am taking to boost my immune system in the next video but here are some quick tips to keep your own immune system strong.
a. Drink plenty of water. A good rule of thumb is ½ your weight in ounces per day. If you weigh 150 lbs then you would drink 75 ounces of water.
b. Get quality sleep. Turn off your phone and TV, and focus on resting your body.
c. Turn off the wifi in your house at night.
d. Limit sugary foods and alcohol. Both will decrease your immune function significantly.
e. Don’t smoke. This is an infection that affects the lungs so you need your lungs to be as strong and healthy as possible in case that you are exposed.
f. Make sure you are eating high quality, organic whole foods. To build our immune system we need to be sure that we are getting all the building blocks, such as the vitamins and minerals, from our food to be able to keep our bodies health and strong.

5. Supplementation.

Again I will cover this in the next video but beneficial to focus on certain nutrients such as Vitamins C & D as well as specific herbs such as echinacea, goldenseal and andrographis to help augment our body’s natural immune function.

Lastly, I would say to our patients that we are, and have been taking the necessary precautions to create and keep a safe environment for everyone who enters into our office. So feel confident that if you are seeking care for pain and posture or for wellness and nutritional support that we are here to help you reach your goals and your health and safety is always our #1 priority.

That’s all I have for now. We’ll go over my personal supplement protocol in the next video. So be safe out there and I’ll keep you posted on more tips and wellness tricks to staying healthy in the next few days. We’ll talk soon.
